SUPPORT NEPAL IS A COMMUNITY BASED INITIATIVE WITH THE AIM TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR IDENTIFIED NEEDS IN NEPAL.
After an eye opening trip to Nepal in 2011, Support Nepal coordinator Amy Pareezer was deeply affected by the deteriorating economic conditions within Nepal and equally in awe of the local's resilience and capacity for joy under such circumstances.
On the 25th of April 2015, Nepal was devastated by an earthquake of 7.9 magnitude. The death toll was over 8000 with over 16000 injured. There are currently over 3 million people in Nepal in need of support. This tragic event strengthened Amy's resolve and Support Nepal was founded with the aim of raising funds within Australia to be distributed in Nepal for earthquake relief and additional projects for in need and marginalised Nepali. After raising over $30K AU in 2015; $20k with the assistance of volunteers from Birds of Passage, Support Nepal moved to Nepal for 1 year to personally deliver one major project of a small 2 classroom primary school in Nuwakot and a fencing compound, kitchen and earthquake repairs for a children's home in Sindhupalchowk. Support Nepal's main focus has been to build meaningful relationships with Nepali NGO's in order to provide our Australian donors with a trustworthy and reliable avenue for the distribution of funds when Support Nepal return to Australia in August 2016. There are many projects that we are eager to get off the ground. Our current priority is to provide a home for Lila Kumari, a widow that lost her daughter in the recent earthquake and currently lives with two young daughters in a tin shack. Please find "Lila’s story" in causes. We are also very passionate about providing support to existing local youth, mental health and drug rehabilitation services in Kathmandu.
Our mission is to Support Nepal with a focus on earthquake relief as well as other identified needs in mental health, youth and drug rehabilitation.
